Silence lingered through the halls as the young male staggered forward. It was late by that point, late enough to know that all of the patients were tucked safely in their rooms, locked away from the outside world. If it weren’t for him being so intoxicated he might have felt bad, maybe. In all honesty he didn’t really care too much about the subject. They were there for a reason, obviously. They needed to be locked away from society. Okay, maybe that was a little harsh. Though, he knew about the insane individuals that called the asylum their home. It was far better that they were in Xavier, being monitored, rather than walking the streets freely. Of course, it was a shame that the innocent were also thrown in here. Hell, he would be pissed if it were him, so he didn’t blame the angry patients. Truth was, life was unfair.
Work was a subject Wink took a little too lightly. He was supposed to be on his shift; however the male found it unappealing at the moment. Which lead to the reason that he was drinking rather than being the responsible adult that he should be. That was Wink, though. Responsibility wasn’t really a word that was in his vocabulary. He was like a child, literally. He had to be looked after; he had to be taken care of. As much as he hated to admit it, he needed help. His addiction to alcohol was only getting worse, and the oxy wasn’t helping anything. Though, he couldn’t stop, he needed it. It was far too late to give up his bad habits now, he knew that for sure.
With a heavy sigh he brought the bottle of whiskey to his lips, letting the liquid slide down his throat. The burning sensation came instantly, somewhat comforting him. It was familiar, that sensation. He hated change. To him, things should stay the same. A person shouldn’t have to go through the shit that they do. If everything was always the same, there wouldn’t be a problem. Wink would have still hated Elektra. Ah yes, everything always seemed to link back to her. But why wouldn’t it? She was, after all the first girl he ever actually loved. Wow, he really did love her. The thought sent chills through his body. It wasn’t right. He wasn’t supposed to feel that way for anyone. He was supposed to stay the way he was, alone.
He stopped walking after coming across the door to the pool. A grin plastered his face as he pushed it open with little force. He stumbled his way over to the edge of the water, staring at his own rippled reflection before gently setting his bottle down. He quickly tore off his sweater and shirt, dropping them on the tiled floor. Not long after he kicked his pants off, leaving him in only his boxers. The smart thing would have been to go home and grab swim trunks, but Wink was a spur of the moment kind of guy.
Without hesitating the male jumped into the pool, water splashing over the sides, soaking his clothing. After coming back up for a breath of air he let out a soft chuckle. The only thing he really cared about was the whiskey, which was still intact. A bright smile lined his lips as he reached for the alcohol.

Riley knew she should stay in bed. She had promised her sister after all that she would not sneak out anymore. Yet when that nurse left her door open she stared at it for hours fighting with herself. Glancing over at her clock on the night stand she reasoned with herself, that neither her sister nor her brother would come by at such a late hour. She bit her bottom lip, Riley wanted to keep her promise to her sister, and yet...the thought of the pool, the cool water washing over her skin. Not having to worry about anyone bothering her until morning. It was too much for her to bare. Quietly she picked up a towel that had been laying over her chair and changed into her extra swim suit that Sophia had given her. Pulling a dress over it she peaked her head outside of her door. Seeing no one slipped out of her door making sure to leave it open a crack. She reasoned with herself that the nurses had already done their night rounds and if they saw her door was open, they would assume it was for Cole, or Sophie. So she was safe. They would give her the privacy, thinking she was sound asleep safe with her brother or sister. Her bare feet made no noise on the floor and Riley crept around the asylum. It was rather eerie at night, almost like the scary movies she used to watch with some of her friends. She pushed the thought quickly out of her head, it was bad enough she had her own nightmares to deal with, she did not need any more added to that. As she got closer to the pool she heard the distinct sound of a splash, that made her freeze in place. Her mind raced thinking if there was any patient that was allowed this late at night. As she racked her brain for the information she was looking for, she heard the distinctive male chuckle. Part of her knew she should run back to her room, pretend this little adventure never happened. Yet there was that damn cat in her head, the curious one, that whispered to her often, "Do it...it could be a fun adventure." When ever she had stated to the cat in her head, curiosity killed the cat, he would simply smile a very lazy smile and reply, "Oh of course...but satisfaction brought him back." She sighed to herself, as she crept forward to peek around the side of the wall. She hoped she was hidden as she stared at him through. The moonlight through the windows gave the pool a beautiful glow. Though it didn't take her long to find the man that had made that chuckle. She found herself staring at him. Once again she cursed herself for being the way she was. If she had been the old Riley she would have simply jumped in the pool with him. As she spotted the bottle of alcohol a small squeak slipped out of her mouth and she quickly covered it. She heard the sound echo and closed her eyes tightly. She hoped that he was to drunk to notice it, or at least play it off as a mouse or something. (Word count 551, hope this is okay! I waited to see if someone else would post. Right hand moved through the water, as his left held onto his drink. The water felt good, real good. It was refreshing, that was for sure. Maybe it was just the alcohol, but he was definitely enjoying it a little too much. He couldn’t even remember the last time he went swimming. He technically wasn’t supposed to be using the patients’ pool, especially after hours, but hell, it was just sitting there, screaming to be used. Besides, who would actually care? Have the staff at the asylum hardly did their job, Wink being one of them. That was one of the perks of working at Xavier, he could slack off whenever he wanted, which was more than half of the time. However, there were those rare occasions when he actually did his job, or tried to at least.
Heaving a sigh he took another drink, the cool liquid sliding effortlessly down his throat. The burning sensation was gone, along with his soberness. He wasn’t completely drunk, but he was getting there. If he had his way, he would be drinking all night, in which he usually did. Hell, he drank most of his life away. Did it bother him? Usually. He had been drinking for so long now; it would be stupid to give it up. Well, it would actually be the smart thing to do, but he wasn’t far too weak to go through with it. He was known for his drinking, and sleeping around. That was him. What would happen if he gave it all up? If one day he just quit everything. Would he become a different person? Of course he would, he was always a different person.
He was about to take another drink of the Whiskey, yet his attention was ripped away. Was he hearing things? Did he actually just hear a squeak? He turned himself around, letting his eyes scan the room. ”Hello?” His voice carried throughout the room, making sure it was loud enough to be heard. One thing was for sure, he wasn’t alone.

Riley pressed herself against the wall as if she was close enough to the wall she would blend in. She looked to the left and then to the right, she thought about running again, but her foot steps would be heard on the floor. Then all this man would have to do is follow her back to her room, shut the door and she'd be helpless. She shuttered at the thought. It wasn't that she thought all men were capable of this, when she was scared her mind usually jumped to the worst possible scenarios.
She needed to calm herself down. Freaking out and going comatose was not going to do anyone any good. Instead she attempted to pull out the old Riley, the her that would go party, flirt with all the boys, and wasn't afraid to stand up for anything. Peaking around the door way she caught her first glimpse of the strange man. She was curious why anyone would jump in with a full bottle of liquor. That seemed to be a waste. Hell the one time she had tripped and split some of her cheap Vodka all her friends called her an disgrace for a week.
She looked down at her bare feet thinking quickly. Suddenly she stood up and moved quickly before she could change her mind. All she could hope for was that he was either to drunk to notice, or he didn't care. Walking towards the door way she smiled sweetly, "Sorry, it's just me." She licked her lips as she prepared her lie, "I'm new around here, I volunteer at night sometimes you see. A friend of mine said there was this awesome pool that I had to check out." Tucking her hair behind her ears as if she were ashamed of being caught, "I was not expecting anyone to here is all. I can leave you to your swim if you want." She avoided his eyes at all cost. As it was she wouldn't be surprised if he could hear her heart beating out of her chest.
As she glanced at him from under her bangs she had to admit he was fairly good looking. She wondered to herself if she were ever normal if she would have a chance with someone as good looking as him. Then again if it was under normal circumstances she would probably have already been flirting with him her cover up on the floor with her feet in the water smiling seductively. That was Riley, the biggest flirt in school. At least...that's who she used to be. She wasn't entirely sure who she was now, she was still working on that. For now she could be at least friendly to this stranger.
(It's not a problem! My muse has been pent up!)

Green orbs traced along the room’s contents, trying to get a glimpse of what made the sound. He was rather surprised when he noticed the young girl approaching him. His first thought was that she was a staff member, though as she got closer his opinion changed. She looked a tad too young to be a staff, well; then again there were fairly young staff members at the asylum. Maybe she was a patient? She could have easily snuck passed the guards; everyone knew that they weren’t the greatest form of security. Either way Wink didn’t really give a damn, as long as she didn’t try to ruin his fun he wouldn’t have a problem.
His eyes dropped onto the girl as she spoke. His hand gripped tightly around his whiskey as he brought the bottle back up to his lips, letting the cool liquid slide back down. He sighed lightly before placing the bottle of whiskey back onto the floor’s surface. Slowly he eyed the female, taking in every inch of her. He paused a moment before cracking a smirk. ”Don’t worry about it.” His voice broke through the air in a gentle tone. He really didn’t mind having the company, truth be told Wink actually hated being alone now; the memories that came creeping were just too much for him to handle.
He leaned up against the corner of the pool, his back just touching the edge. ”It’s all good, you can stay.” He watched her slightly, observing her body language. Oh yes, Wink was not a stupid individual. Even though he pinned himself as a drunken idiot, he truly wasn’t. He was far from it, actually. Wink had a knack for knowing what people were truly feeling, in a sense. It was all about their body language. Not many people would know that about him, of course he wouldn’t admit to any of it. He couldn’t reveal his biggest secret, not now. He had been through so much, what was the point of making things worse by being his true self?
His attention stayed to the girl, as his right hand reached for his drink. Again, he brought the bottle to his lips, downing more of the cool liquid before setting it back down. A dark grin played across his lips as he watched her further. He noticed how she avoided eye contact, which could only mean a few things. However, Wink knew better. ”You don’t have to lie to me.” His voice stayed the same silky tone as before. He wasn’t trying to be an asshole, for once. In all honesty she sort of reminded him of his little sister. She was often shy, and she did the exact same thing when she lied to him. ”So, are you really part of the staff?” The question came out casually; he could care less, either way. Although, she sparked his attention, which made him want to know.
He reached for his drink, holding it loosely in his hand. The same warm smile lingered on his lips as he spoke once more. ”To be honest, I’m a little sick of staff members.” His tone was playful; he wasn’t lying in the least bit. He was tired of the staff at Xavier, some more than others. Of course, there were the few that he liked, most of which were females, go figure. A lot of the men were hard to get along with, especially since Wink wasn’t the friendliest of people.

Riley watched him without really looking at him. She was curious what made him drink in the pool but was not going to push her luck...at least not yet. Between the smirk and the remark she relaxed, "Well glad I didn't interrupt anything." The gentleness in his tone made her want to believe him but she still kept up her guard. With the whiskey, she wasn't sure how he was going to react, at least not yet.
Walking over to the far edge of the pool she sat on the edge dipping her feet into the pool swinging her feet back and forth softly. Riley was enjoying the cool water on her skin. She had been unbearably hot lately and the water seemed to be exactly what the doctor ordered. Then again...if her doctor knew she was out here, this late, with a complete stranger who had been drinking. She could only imagine her sister's reaction. Yet all this did was make her want to be here more. It wasn't so much that she enjoyed breaking the "rules," but she enjoyed taking some risks.
She felt the guys attention never really waver from her. She looked up at the ceiling trying to ignore it at first. She practically jumped out of her skin when he started talking about lying. She opened her mouth to deny that she had been lying. Before she could really get the words out she asked the question, the question that she was dreading to hear. Biting her bottom lip sh sighed, "Alright you caught me. I used to be staff here. Well I volunteered here with my brother and sister. There was an incident...and now well here I am." She smiled her sweetest smile, "So am I still allowed to stay here even though I'm no long staff? I promise, I won't get in your way, and if I start to I'll be good and go back to my room. Where you won't have to see me again." She put her head into her hands, "Sides can you really send away someone so cute?"
Riley figured it was a long shot, but hey she was at least going to try. The smile made Riley brush ever so slightly, "Well then looks like tonight is my lucky night isn't it?" Casually she asked teasingly, "So should I tell you my name? Or should I keep it a secret, just in case you change your mind and decide you want to tell on me later?" Pulling off her bathing suit cover she set it aside and slide into the water. While she waited for him to send her back, she was going to at least enjoy this water.
Staying as far away from him as she could she watched him out of the corner of his eye. Watching for any sudden movement. A thought suddenly struck Riley, "Wait just a second, how do I know you're not another patient just playing games with me sneaking out of your room?" She knew she hadn't seen him before, and she knew a good number of the patients, but one could never be too sure.

He leaned up against the wall of the pool, letting his arms casually rest on the side. He dropped his gaze from the girl, his eyes wandering to the water in front of him. Wink didn't want to make her feel uncomfortable, even if she was a patient. He had nothing against any of the patients in Xavier, hell, most of them were more sane than him. It seemed as though all hell broke loose inside his head, his mind constantly playing tricks on him. He was battling a war against one person, something that seemed impossible, yet, it was true. It was more or less like he was two people, trapped inside one body. There were two sides to Wink, the good and the bad. However, as the days passed he could feel himself changing. The good traits he possessed were being shattered by the bad. The mask he hid behind was finally starting to attach itself to him.
He brought the bottle of whiskey back up to his lips, letting the liquid slide down his throat with ease. The burning sensation didn't last long, due to his state. He was already fairly buzzed, though he kept on drinking. That's how he was, he drank until he couldn't drink anymore. His eyes traveled back up to the girl as she spoke, each of her words processing in his mind. He was good at reading people, well, when he was sober, which wasn't very often. He had so many gifts that he was just wasting, trading them in for alcohol. So, he was right from the start, she was a patient. It didn't really make any difference, patient or staff, Wink didn't care. Although, it was a tad better that she turned out to be a patient, she definitely wasn't going to give him any more trouble than a staff member would. Besides, by the looks of it, he would almost say that she was flirting with him, another plus.
A humorous grin painted across his lips as he spoke, his voice carrying out in a gentle tone. ”Do what you want.” He downed another good portion of the bottle before speaking to her once more. ”I'm off duty.” He added a playful wink, letting her know that he wasn't going to ruin her fun. Plus, he really wasn't on his shift, so was it his problem if a patient had gotten out? Alright, maybe it was, though no one had to know. Honestly, he was more than happy to give the girl a break, knowing what she had to go through. Being locked up all day and stuffed with pills wasn't exactly what you would call fun, well, maybe not the first part.
His stare remained on the girl, his playful grin slowly turning into a dark smirk. ”I won't rat you out.” His words came out in a cool breeze, showing little effort in the matter. He didn't really care enough to tell, hell he could care less if the girl was in her room or not. Being a guard wasn't the only job in the world, he could get another one with ease if anything ever happened. He honestly wasn't planning that far ahead, though. He took each day as they came, drinking most of them away, of course.
He took another drink from the bottle before resting it on the edge of the pool. His eyes dropped back onto the girl as she spoke, her words catching his attention. Well, wasn't she an observant one. He let out a soft chuckle, ”I'm not a patient, but good try.” He didn't feel the need to prove himself to her, it took too much effort. Of course, if he wanted to prove it he could, seeing as how he had his set of keys resting with the pile of his clothes.

As Riley listened to Wink she could not help the small giggle that came out after the wink. How long had it been since someone winked at her. Not a spasm from the medicine, but an actual wink. She knew he was just being friendly, but somewhere inside of her, it made her feel normal again. Like a guy was hitting on her, nothing was wrong with her. She was just taking a late night deep in the pool. Looking down at the water she smiled to herself, how nice it would be to be normal. Riley grinned up at him playfully, "I'm glad to hear it. Maybe I'll make a habit of coming here while you're not on duty." It was nice having someone treat her like a person, not another patient who needed to be stuffed with pills, and locked away before society saw them. Riley thought about swimming around like she normally would when she was alone in the pool. Then again with her "condition," god how she hated that word, if he even so much as brushed against her lightly, she would go into a whole different world. Thus probably putting herself on lock down, and getting him in trouble, then again he was off duty. She was not entirely sure how all of that worked. Not wanting to get anyone in trouble she stayed where she was, kicking her legs slowly in front of her. The way the water moved around her legs was mesmerizing to her. She had always felt at home in the water. Before all of this she was even thinking about joining the swim team. Thinking back she wondered why she never did. Probably just got side tracked with something else. When he spoke again she had almost forgotten that she asked the question. Riley liked that he actually looked at her when she spoke, not through her like so many of the doctors around here did lately. Making a show of tapping her chin in thought she wondered aloud, "So if you're not a patient, you must not be a doctor either." She was extremely curious as to who this man was. That was Riley though, she was always trying to figure things out. Chewing on her bottom lip in thought she finally announced, "As long as you won't rat me out, you can be whatever you want." Finally deciding that this man wasn't going to try to jump her or something crazy like that she slipped herself completely into the pool. Holding onto the edge so she didn't go under water, at least not right away. Pretending to look around she glanced his way. A good bit of the bottle was already gone. She wondered if now was a good time to ask, or if maybe that would be over stepping this nice arrangement they had. Ducking underwater Riley closed her eyes enjoying the cold pool water on her skin. She had been hot lately and this seemed to take the edge off. While she was under she thought about how to word the question. She didn't want to sound like a little kid asking, but she didn't want to sound like she was accusing him either. Coming up for air she took a minute pushing her bangs out of her face. Finally she looked over at him asking bluntly, "So why do you drink?" As an after thought she added, "Not that you have to tell me or anything. I was just curious." She shrugged as if to say she didn't care either way, but she wasn't sure if she got that message across. Words 633 Tagged Wink Notes I'm so sorry this took so long!!!!!
